APPENDIX I

THE MOST HOLY ROSARY
OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Be with Mary at the foot of the Cross and pray the Rosary to Jesus with Mary, in the power of Jesus' Blood and of the Holy Spirit, for the glory and honour of Our Father; meditate on the most important events in the lives of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. These fifteen events are called mysteries of the Rosary and are divided into three different mysteries with five decades in each:

  1. The Five Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary
  2. The Five Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary
  3. The Five Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary

Please refer to Mediation on the Most Holy Rosary in Be With Mary at the Foot of the Cross for a detailed outline of these fifteen mysteries with references to Holy Scripture.

HOW TO PRAY THE ROSARY

Cover yourself with the Most Precious Blood of the New Covenant and invite Jesus' healing love to envelop you. At the same time invoke the aid of the Holy Spirit and Mary, the two gardeners of our soul.

  1. Begin on the crucifix of Our Lord Jesus and pray the Apostles' Creed.
  2. On the next 5 beads between the crucifix and the join, pray one Our Father, three Hail Marys, and one Glory Be for the Pope's intentions.
  3. Then announce the name of the mysteries, for example, the first Joyful Mystery is The Annunciation. A short reading from the relevant Holy Scripture aids meditation; e.g. Luke 1:26-38 for The Annunciation.
  4. Pray one Our Father, ten Hail Marys, one Glory Be and the Fatima prayer after each decade O my Jesus, forgive us our sins...
  5. Announce the second mystery and continue in the same manner until each of the five Mysteries of the selected group or decades is prayed.

Our Blessed Mother appeared on October 13, 1917 at Fatima as Our Lady of the Rosary to three children. Her message was: "I am Our Lady of the Rosary; I want a chapel built here in my honour. Continue to say the Rosary every day. Men must amend their lives, and ask pardon for their sins. Men must not offend God any more for He is already very much offended." In the multiple vision that followed the children first saw the Holy Family Jesus, Mary and Joseph (the Joyful Mysteries), then Our Lady of the Seven Dolours ( the Sorrowful Mysteries), and lastly Our Lady of Mount Carmel (the Glorious Mysteries).

PRAYERS

THE SIGN OF THE CROSS
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

THE APOSTLES' CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ,, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

OUR FATHER

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed by Thy name; Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

HAIL MARY

Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with thee; blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

GLORY BE TO THE FATHER

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

FATIMA PRAYER AFTER EACH DECADE

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those who most need of Thy mercy.

HAIL, HOLY QUEEN

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail our life, our sweetness and our hope; to thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

PRAYER OF POPE JOHN PAUL II (Totus Tuus)

Immaculate Conception...
Mary my Mother...
Live in me...
Act in me...
Speak in and through me...
Think your thoughts in my mind...
Love through my heart...
Give me your dispositions and feelings...
Teach, lead and guide me to Jesus...
Correct, enlighten and expand my thoughts and behaviour...
Possess my soul...

Take over my entire personality and life...
Replace it with yourself...
Incline me to constant adoration and thanksgiving...
Pray in me and through me...
Let me live in you and keep me in this union always. Amen.

SUB TUUM PRAESIDIUM
We fly to your patronage,
O Holy Mother of God,
despise not our petitions
in our necessities,
but deliver us from all danger,
O, ever glorious and Blessed Virgin.

LET US PRAY:
O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death and Resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech thee, that, meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virign Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

HYMNS

WE STAND FOR GOD
We stand for God, and for His glory!
The Lord supreme and God of all.
Against His foes, we raise His standard;
Around the Cross, we hear His call.

Chorus: Strengthen our faith Redeemer,
Guard us when danger is nigh;
To Thee we pledge our lives and service;
For God we live, for God we'll die.
To Thee we pledge our lives and service;
For God we live, for God we'll die.

We stand for God, Jesus our Master!
Has died to save with love untold;
His law divine and truth unchanging
In this our land, their place must hold. (Chorus)

We stand for God, in ages olden,
He placed The Cross our stars beside;
O, may our land, gracious and golden,
Be faithful to the Crucified! (Chorus
)

I'LL SING A HYMN TO MARY
I'll sing a hymn to Mary,
The Mother of my God,
The Virgin of all virgins,
Of David's royal blood.
O, teach me, holy Mary,
A loving song to frame,
When wicked men blaspheme thee,
To love and bless thy name.

O, Lily of the valley,
O, mystic Rose, what tree
Or flower e'en the fairest,
Is half so fair as thee?
O, let me, though so lowly
Recite my Mother's fame,
When wicked men blaspheme thee,
I'll love and bless thy name.
